T12 LED tube

A T12 LED tube is the LED version of the older T12 fluorescent lamp (TL tube) , which has a larger diameter than the more common T8 and T5 tubes. T12 LED tubes are designed to perform the same function as traditional T12 fluorescent tubes, but with the advantages of LED technology, such as energy efficiency and a longer lifespan.

Features of a T12 LED tube:

βœ… Energy efficient – T12 LED tubes consume up to 50% less energy than older T12 fluorescent lamps.
βœ… Long lifespan – They typically last between 30,000 and 50,000 hours , much longer than traditional T12 fluorescent tubes.
βœ… Instant full light – LED tubes provide instant 100% light intensity without warm-up time or flickering.
βœ… Environmentally friendly – They contain no mercury and are completely recyclable.
βœ… Various light colours – Available in different colour temperatures, such as 3000K (warm white) , 4000K (neutral white) and 6500K (cold white) .

Types of T12 LED tubes:

  • Retrofit T12 LED tube – This is a replacement tube that easily fits into existing T12 fixtures. Sometimes the ballast needs to be replaced or removed.
  • T12 LED tube with electronic ballast – For fixtures that already have an electronic ballast , the T12 LED tube can be directly replaced without any additional adjustments.
  • Directly on 230V T12 LED tube – Some T12 LED tubes are designed to be connected directly to mains voltage, eliminating the need for a ballast.

Installing a T12 LED tube:

  1. For retrofitting (old T12 luminaires with conventional ballast)

    • Remove the old T12 fluorescent tube and replace it with a T12 LED tube.
    • You may need to replace the starter with an LED starter (this is usually included).
    • In some cases, the ballast may need to be removed or replaced with an LED driver, depending on the tube type.
  2. For luminaires with electronic ballast

    • Remove the old T12 fluorescent tube and replace it with a T12 LED tube.
    • When using an electronic ballast, the LED tube can be placed directly in the fixture.
  3. Directly on 230V

    • Remove the ballast and connect the T12 LED tube directly to 230V (L and N).

Common sizes of T12 LED tubes:

  • 120 cm (T12-38) : 20W to 40W
  • 150 cm (T12-38) : 30W to 50W

Advantages of T12 LED tubes:

  • More energy efficient and lower energy costs than traditional T12 tubes.
  • Higher light output per watt , which ensures better lighting and less energy consumption.
  • Longer lifespan , meaning you need to replace less often.
  • Direct replacements for old T12 fluorescent tubes, without the need for many installation adjustments.

T12 LED tubes are particularly useful in older buildings or industrial applications where T12 tubes are still commonly used, but where the benefits of LED technology are desired.
